Since the earliest Roman times sporting events have
always figured prominently in the Roman Calendar. These
days bloodthirsty gladiatorial combat has been replaced
with soccer matches at the Olympic Stadium involving
one of Rome's two great football teams Lazio and Roma.
In 2004 AS Roma and SS Lazio will both be playing in
the UEFA cup.
Every Sunday from September until the
end of May it's possible to view a football match at

for the later stages - if not we can sit back and

Rugby 6 Nations
Rugby 6 Nations takes place in Rome
with Italy playing against their opponents in the Flaminio
Stadium which is easily reachable from the Michelangelo
Palace Bed & Breakfast. Italy's coach is Kirwan who replaced
the New Zealander Brad Johnstone who was sacked after
a string of results which saw Italy lose 14 straight
6 nations matches.

The Italian Tennis Masters 2004
The Italian Tennis
Masters takes place every May at the Foro Italico Tennis
Club on the banks of the Tiber and next to the Olympic
Stadium (in fact it is not too far from the Rugby Stadium
Flaminio which hosts the Six Nations Tournament featuring
Italy against Scotland , England etc. The Italian Masters
has taken on greater importance in recent years as it
is the largest tournament to be played on a clay surface
prior to Roland Arrows Paris. Consequently, most of
the world's top ranking tennis players take part.
